Renault Group to Invest €300 million in French Plant to Build Electric Vans
Renault Group's plant in Northern France is to build next generation electric vans for Flexis SAS, the new joint venture set up by Renault Group, Volvo Group and CMA CGM. A total investment of €300 million is planned between now and 2026 to build light commercial vehicles (LCVs).
550 people will be recruited to work at the Sandouville site in Normandy over the next four years.
In pursuit of decarbonisation, the entire manufacturing process has been optimised to meet its 2030 net zero carbon target.
Initiatives include a new, modernised painting process that will cut the use of resources and energy by 30%.
The plant is also equipped with 40 hectares of photovoltaic panels.
On 22 March 2024, Renault Group and Volvo Group obtained the necessary regulatory approval to officially launch the joint venture Flexis SAS.
CMA CGM Group has confirmed its interest in a strategic investment of up to €120 million in Flexis SAS through PULSE, its energy investment fund.
Thierry Charvet, Chief Industry & Quality Officer, Renault Group, says: “The assignment of this new project recognizes the expertise and commitment of women and men at the plant. A new era is beginning at Sandouville, with the production of a new generation of electric LCVs that will transform the logistics of the future with their revolutionary design. This is a source of pride for us, and it is also a challenge that we are taking up at this historic site, where the objective is to remain an industry benchmark. With this decision, Renault Group is strengthening its industrial footprint in France.”
In 2023, Renault's Sandouville plant built 131,427 vehicles, adding Trafic Van E-Tech electric to its line-up.
