Lucid is recalling all versions of its 2022 Air electric cars due to a wiring issue.
In a notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website, it noted that “Disabled display screens will not show critical information such as the speedomoeter, gear selection indicators, and warning lights.”
The display wiring harnesses in the cars “may not be secured properly” according to the note, which can lead to the screens being disabled.
1,117 units are expected to be affected by the recall. But, with Lucid struggling to meet its own production targets and delivering less than 1,000 models to customers, it appears that the recall is all-encompassing for Air models currently on the road.
In a statement to Engadget, a Lucid spokesperson said:
“For Lucid, the safety of our customers and their families is the highest priority. Lucid is recalling certain model year 2022 Lucid Air vehicles because of the possibility that the wiring connection to the instrument panel may not have been secured properly during assembly. The recall applies to 1,117 vehicles that have been delivered to customers, and it is estimated that the defect is present on 1% of cars. Lucid is not aware of any instances when these components have failed in a vehicle or caused an interruption to the instrument display panel.”
