Following approval to test its all-electric autonomous T-pod truck on public roads from the Swedish Transport Agency, Einride has begun daily deliveries with logistics juggernaut DB Schenker.
The autonomous truck startup has already received orders from the likes of German supermarket Lidl and Swedish delivery company Svenska Retursystem. The company aims to have 200 vehicles in operation by the end of next year.
In an exclusive interview with Auto Futures last month, Einride CEO Robert Falck said: “DB Schenker is one of the largest logistics companies in the world. They’re also a progressive company, deeply concerned about climate change and great believers in self-driving technology.”
The T-pod truck weighs 26 tonnes when stocked and does not have a cabin in the front for the driver, reducing freight operating costs by approximately 60% in comparison to a conventional diesel truck.
