According to reports, Volkswagen is preparing to enter the rapidly-growing electric scooter market with a German services provider under its ‘We Share’ brand.
The provider, which remains unknown, will manage procurement and software for the mobility business.
If true, this confirms VW’s ‘micro mobility’ push, with new partners and projects on the way. However, it is fairly certain that the company will be using third-party products, rather than producing e-scooters in-house. In fact, the report states that Segway will be the supplier for the We Share brand.
The e-scooter sharing service would follow several already confirmed micro-mobility and last mile solutions from VW, such as the electric cargo bike, Streetmate two-wheeled electric scooter and three-wheeled Cityskater.
VW will now lock horns with BMW and Daimler which are also setting up new services, including Hive and MyTaxi.
